Marquis service for the fireplace or insert you actually own

A Marquis gas fireplace and an older insert can require different manuals, controls and installation decisions. Describe the symptom and send the exact model if safely accessible. We provide independent gas fireplace maintenance and diagnosis; whether a repair or replacement is sensible depends on the installed unit and its condition.

Efficient Fireplace Services offers independent maintenance, diagnosis and repair for gas fireplaces across the Lower Mainland, based in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

Call or text 778-697-1807 with your city, the symptom and a photo of the full appliance. Include the model and serial information if it is visible without opening sealed glass or disturbing gas components. You can also email us. You do not need to identify a replacement part before calling.

First distinguish an insert from a built-in fireplace

Marquis’s Capri series is a direct-vent gas insert intended for an existing fireplace opening. The Skyline is a zero-clearance direct-vent fireplace. That distinction affects what must be reviewed when service or replacement is discussed, including access to the appliance and the existing installation.

A photo of the entire unit and its surrounding opening can help us start the conversation, but it cannot establish venting condition or replacement compatibility on its own.

Within a series, the suffix also matters. Marquis lists different Capri sizes and gas-control versions; its Skyline specifications likewise identify millivolt and electronic-ignition variants. A dead wall switch, remote problem or burner that stops after lighting can have different explanations depending on the fitted controls. We compare the model label and the applicable Marquis manuals before recommending components. No symptom alone proves a failed valve, receiver or ignition module.

What a service or repair visit involves

For planned maintenance, the technician checks the condition and follows the applicable instructions. Work can include cleaning the glass, firebox, burner and logs; inspecting the pilot or ignition arrangement, flame quality, gas connections and venting; checking a fitted fan, remote or thermostat; and testing operation and safety systems.

The scope follows the actual unit. Our service and maintenance page sets out the general checklist.

When there is a fault, tell us what the fireplace does from the moment you use its normal control: no response, ignition attempt without a stable flame, or shutdown after it has been running. We test the relevant system before explaining the repair option. Our gas fireplace repair page describes that diagnostic approach. If a component is involved, the parts page explains why model match and availability must be confirmed first.

When an older insert prompts a replacement discussion

An insert that needs repair is not automatically a candidate for replacement. We first consider its condition, the fault, relevant manuals and whether a compatible part is obtainable. If replacement makes more sense, we review the existing opening, venting, gas connection, electrical requirements and finishing needs at the property.

See the installation and replacement page for the full project pathway. We do not assume a new insert can simply occupy the old opening or reuse an existing vent without a site assessment and manufacturer instructions.

Marquis questions, answered

Marquis owners often ask whether a Capri variant has the same control, whether a remote needs replacement and if an older insert is repairable. The precise model, configuration and site condition decide those questions. The answers below clarify what to send and why photographs cannot substitute for diagnosis.

Is every Marquis Capri insert controlled the same way?

No. Marquis publishes several Capri sizes and control versions, so the installed model matters. Please send the model information if readily accessible and a photo of the remote or wall control. We will not infer the control system solely from the series name.

My remote responds, but the fireplace does not light. Do I need a new remote?

Not necessarily. The handset response does not identify the cause of a startup failure. The receiver, power and ignition sequence, safety controls or other components may need testing on the specific unit. We diagnose before recommending a part.

Can you identify a part from an online photo?

A photograph may help identify the appliance, but a suitable part needs model and compatibility checks. Availability can change, especially on older units. We do not promise every repair is possible or that every part is in stock.

Is this a Marquis-authorized service page?

No. Efficient Fireplace Services is independent; this page does not claim a manufacturer relationship. Our one-year warranty covers completed workmanship. Any product or parts warranty follows the relevant manufacturer terms.

What if the glass suddenly darkens or I smell gas?

Unexpected soot or changed flame behaviour is a reason to stop using the fireplace until it is assessed. If you smell gas, FortisBC advises leaving the area without operating switches or a phone indoors, then calling 1-800-663-9911 or 911 once outside. For other appointment questions, see our fireplace FAQ.
